Watching the power generation/consumption screens offered us numerous discussions on the value and expense of internal combustion engines, the obvious lack of understanding by other drivers in their large gas-guzzling SUVs, and the importance of slowing down and enjoying the ride. Mile after mile, we celebrated our renewable resource (electric power), watched the gas stations (with their Republican-inflated fuel prices) melt into the rearview mirror, and slowly joined the growing numbers of enlightened global-warming realists. And, yet, we are also torn by the continued growth of our Halliburton stock and the importance of keeping oil prices high. We find ourselves in the middle of the perfect storm. Keeping it Green.

48.7 MPG
On a 600+ mile trip yesterday, our new car got 48.7 MPG. Though I have owned two VW diesels in the past (both that got 45 miles highway MPG), I have never owned/driven a gas car that averages 48.7 MPG. The longer we drove, the better MPG we got, which brings me to my next point, fascinating new technology and our growing dependency on foreign oil.

I'm not even going to try and touch this one. I mean it is just ripe with commentary potential, yet I'll either incriminate myself and my seemingly liberal politics or try to figure out if the ever-Republican conservative has speaking with irony or a change of heart ;)
